Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) – Center of Education, Science and Culture of highly industrial region of Ukraine,Dnieper. The city of Dnepropetrovsk is the main Industrial city of Ukraine. Above than 40% industry of Ukraine is located in Dnepropetrovsk. It is known as the business city of Ukraine. The city is highly developed and well-established in all aspects of life. Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) is one of the oldest higher educational institution of Ukraine having 4th (the highest) level of accreditation in Ukraine.
Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) was founded on September 15, 1916 on the basis of Ekaterynoslavsky higher female courses Institute. Institute acquired the status of State Academy in 1920 and it was confirmed again to Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) in Ukraine in 1994 by the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine № 224 dated 20 April 1994.
Foundation and the establishment of the Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) was led by eminent scientists with world-known names, such as V.P. Karpov, Oleg S.Abrazhanov, O. Drzhevetsky, L. Gromashevsky, L.S. Halperin, M.F. Rudnev, G.F. Tsomakion, N.S. Kakhiani, M.S. Stanishevskaya, M.O. Kabanov, O.I. Talyantsev, I. Troitsky, S.M. Kompaneets, M.V. Donici, A.V. Padlewski etc.
TEACHING STAFF: 646 teachers works at the departments of Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA), among them are 98 Doctors of Medical Sciences, 359 Candidates of medical Sciences,1 Academician of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine,1 Corresponding member of National.
Academy of Sciences of Ukraine,2 Corresponding members of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine,4 employees were awarded the Prizes of the President of Ukraine, 5 distinguished workers of higher educational and public education of Ukraine, 9 honored workers of Science and Technology, 9 State Bronze winners of Ukraine and Russia, 5 honors Doctors of Ukraine, 24 full members and corresponding members of many National and foreign universities,members of international Scientific societies and Associations. Since its founding Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) rectors were: V.P. Karpov (1920-1925), A.A.Levin-Lavretzky (1925-1928), S.S. Kagan (1928-1932), L.A. Gabino (1932 — 1936), M. Trostanetsky (1936-1947), I.M. Kucheriavyj (1947-1953), D.P. Chuhrienko (1953-1959), M.Ya. Horoshmanenko (1959-1964), I.I. Kryzhanovskaya (1964-1981), L.V.Novitskaya-Usenko (1981-1996). Since 1996, the Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) is headed by Academician of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Professor G.V. Dzyak.

Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) introduced the scholarships to students and the students were given place in the hostels to live in the academic year 1923/1924.
Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) has carried in its fifth year disciplines of medicine, surgery, maternity and child care, sanitation and hygiene. In the prewar years were formed hygienic department in 1931 and Pediatrics department in 1937 in Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA).
By 1941, Academy prepared: 21 professors, 82 associate professors, 248 assistant, 6448 physicians.At that time in Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) there were 3276 students, and the staff members were 319 people at the Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA). Clinics of Academy had 2,200 beds.
Since the beginning of the World War II, 130 members of staff of the Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) went to fight from their country at the front. On the basis of the regional hospital was established front-line evacuation hospital (EVP number 3582), chief of which was I.M. Kucheryavyi, Vice – S.A. Rossin, a leading surgeon – D.A. Vasilenko. The hospital retained the valuable property of the Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA).
August 13, 1941 Academy was evacuated to Stavropol, where Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) was temporarily merged with the Stavropol Medical Institute. The main tasks of the team were second to ensure early release of doctors and retraining of doctors in specialties needed for front and rear. In July 1942 the Institute of Stavropol was evacuated first to Makhachkala, then to Tashkent and Fergana.
In the time of World War II (1941-1944) Institute have been trained over 1000 physicians.
In April 1944 – after the freedom from Germans staff members of Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) have returned to their property. World War II was a big loss to Academy. The most number of equipment were stolen, the main buildings were burned. Despite the difficulties of reconstruction began with the first days of the liberation of the city from invaders, Prof. E.A. Kuraev, and T. M. Stepanov, Assistant professors V.F. Stefanovskaya and D.N. Kutsygin with their staff has taken the first steps to restore the Academy. In September 1944 the first and second courses enrolled 340 students. Gradually, the members of staff and students of Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) came back from the war from the different areas of USSR.
Thousands of graduates of the Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) and more than 200 of its staff during the war years were awarded orders and medals. Many of them sacrificed their lives for their homeland.
On the 6 April 1965 Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) opened morphological building in which were located seven departments, museums,scientific and educational laboratories.
In 1966 the Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) celebrated its 50 anniversary. By that time in Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) were 55 departments and 3769 students were enrolled in the different departments of Academy. Among the staff of the Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) were 31 professor, 88 associate professors, 216 assistant professors, 43 doctors of medical science and 198 candidates of medical sciences. Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) was awarded the Order of Red Banner of Labor by the House of the President of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for its development in medical science and for its 50th anniversary in 1966.
After the restoration of educational and therapeutic bases, Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) started expanding the range of specialties: improve the quality of teachers, organized the Dental School, opened a new department, created a central research laboratory. Academy built 5 hostels, 3 dining rooms, dispensary, a sports camp and started operating them. In 1970 came into operation a sports complex with swimming pool. In 1973 Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) created a faculty for training physicians, in 1974 opened a preparatory department. In 1984 – commissioned educational building number 3, which housed 9 Departments and 4 lecture halls. In the 80-90-years of the last century based on the Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) created the faculty of foreign students, opened a medical Lyceum, organized psycho-physiological laboratory testing, greatly expanded academic and clinical base.
Throughout its history the Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) has trained about 45 000 doctors.

Today Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) – one of the leading universities of medical education in Ukraine from a single continuous professional training at three levels: pre-university, graduate and postgraduate.
In the structure of the Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) – 6 faculties (three medical, dental, department of foreign students and faculty of postgraduate education), which has more than 4,5 thousand students and doctors for post graduation.
At the Academy 59 departments work. Among staff at Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) there are 646 teachers, among them 98 doctors of Medical Sciences and 359 candidates of Medical Sciences. In total, the Academy employs over 1100 employees.

Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) has 42 clinical departments which are located in 28 hospitals and having over 15 thousand beds. On clinical bases Academy organized 29 specialized centers.
The Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) occupies an area of 85 hectares. Academy has 8 academic buildings with total area of 52000 square meters, which are located 608 classrooms, offices and laboratories. 7 dormitories area is 46000 sq.m. 2849 students and resident doctors under training.
The Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) has a sports complex, vivarium, a sanatorium, sports camp, academic library, Techno-center and two museums.

Accommodation
Dnepropetrovsk medical academy of Health Ministry of Ukraine» provides guaranteed accommodation placement services to all foreign students who receive an academic offer. There are several accommodation options for the students and it is important to consider whether you prefer an independent lifestyle or enjoy living in a student community.
The academy provides accommodation for students in the hostels. In total DMA has 7 comfortable hostels located in different regions of the city, which are connected by advanced transport structure (bus, tramway and trolley-bus). The hostels have total area of 45422 sq. m. and can accommodate 2768 students. Foreign students live in the hostels No 1, 5 and 7.
The hostel buildings are of a modern block type and consist of the rooms for 2-3 students with all the necessary conveniences. All rooms are well-organized and furnished with a bed, a desk and a chair, provided with cold and hot running water, central heating, Internet access and suitable lighting for both study and relaxation. The territory of the hostels is protected and patrolled by officers of guard service. In the hostel each room is attached to the kitchen suitable for students to cook food on their own taste. Students will need to supply their kitchen utensils.
Meals and provisions may be bought from various shops and supermarkets around. There are also several students’ canteens and cafes on the territory of the academy.
