Ternopil State Medical University is a medical university in Ukraine. It was founded on September 1, 1957. It is one of the best medical universities in Ukraine, ranking third among the higher medical schools according to IV (fourth) the highest level of accreditation by the Ministry of Health And Education of Ukraine. It is composed of national and international students. The foreign students currently in the school are about 800 from 48 different countries all over the world.
History
Ternopil State Medical Institute with a medical faculty was organized by the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR of April 12, 1957. In 1992, by resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of July 1, 1992 No. 363, the institute was named after an outstanding scientist, academician of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, born in Ternopil region Ivan Yakovlevich Gorbachevsky . January 30, 1997 in accordance with the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 92, the institute received the status of a medical academy. According to the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated November 17, 2004, No. 831-p, and by order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine dated December 2, 2004 No. 596, the Academy was reorganized into Ternopil State Medical University named after I. Ya. Gorbachevsky.
Ternopil State Medical University named after I. Ya. Gorbachevsky is headed by Korda Mikhail Mikhailovich, MD, professor.
The main stages of university development
- in 1961, for the first time, 203 doctors graduated with a diploma from the Ternopil Medical Institute;
- in 1994, the institute is accredited for IV level of accreditation;
- in 1995, a nursing faculty was opened to train specialists in the field of “Nursing” and “Laboratory Diagnostics”. In 2000, he was reorganized into the faculty of bachelor’s and junior medicine specialists, and since September 2002, into the Medical College of the Academy. On October 4, 2005, the Medical College of the TSMU was reorganized into an educational and scientific institute of nursing;
- Since 1997, the publishing house “Ukrmedkniga” has been operating, which has become the base for the CMC of the WMO of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
- Since 1997, training for foreign citizens has begun at all courses, as well as in clinical residency. Since 2000, a preparatory department for foreign citizens has been functioning. Introduced learning in English. As of October 1, 2012, 1,166 foreign students from more than 60 countries study at the university.
- in 2000, for the first time, a reception was held at the Faculty of Pharmacy, which began training pharmacists, since 2001 the faculty has been training future clinical pharmacists, since 2003, pharmacists-cosmetologists;
- in 2004, the training of specialists in the specialty “Dentistry” began. In 2009, the first issue of dentists.
By the 150th anniversary of the birth of Academician I. Ya. Gorbachevsky, a monument to the scientist was erected near the morphological building.
- Since 2006 stepped nursing education has been introduced. Since September 2009, the training of bachelors in distance learning has begun.
- in 2010, licenses were obtained for the right to prepare students for “Medical and preventive care” (educational qualification specialist) and “Biology” (educational qualification bachelor);
- in 2012, a license was received for the right to prepare students in the direction of “Human Health” (the educational qualification level is a bachelor’s degree);

Accomodation
Ternopil State Medical University is the structural unit of the medical university that includes the complex of the hostels №1, 2, 3, 4 with adjacent territories. The Campus serves as the accommodation for Ukrainian and Foreign Students as well as interns, masters, resident doctor, postgraduate students, students of the preparatory department and the postgraduate training faculty.
Foreign Students live in the hostel; most of them come from India, Malaysia, Syria, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ghana, Poland and other countries.
There are 508 bed places in the hostel. The hostel includes 206 rooms. Every floor has two wings each including 3 accommodation blocks, a side room, a kitchen and a home room.
Most rooms of the hostel are connected to the Internet.
There are a hostel warden’s office, hostel staff office, spacious lobby and 2 libraries.
There is a first aid unit on the ground floor of the university hostel.
There are a spacious gym with modern pieces of gym equipment and laundry in the basement.
